                                Art Sanctuary

Art Sanctuary is an African-American arts and letters organization devoted to presenting
outstanding regional and national talent in the literacy, visual and performing arts.

Housed in the Church of the Advocate, Art Sanctuary brings to Philadelphia artists
who display the brilliance and transforming power of Black art.

                                Community Partnership School

At 2:30 pm each school day, our students leave the Honickman Learning Center/Comcast Technology Labs and travel with their teachers to the Church of the Advocate. Here they begin another three hours of academic, artistic and creative enrichment, facilitated by CPS After School staff and designed to round out the CPS educational experience.
Besides the requisite snack, crafts and free play, the CPS After School program includes many education enhancing activities. Once a week students are instructed in martial arts, African drumming and dance, and ballet. They walk to the local library and science center for educational programs. They even spend six weeks in the fall at the local YMCA learning to swim, and participate in weekly tennis lessons in the spring.

The after-school program and its combination of rich activities deepen our students' overall learning experience and provide exposure to a range of possibilities that feed their curiosity.
